Where to Allow Your Dog to Sleep
If left to their own devices your dog would probably choose to sleep curled up on your bed or as second best stretched out across the couch. Obviously for most of us this is not an option and rightly so. Sharing a bed with a dog can cause problems. They can become very territorial about it and start to get jealous about sharing their luxury dog bed with anyone else. Plus disturbing a dog in a deep slumber by moving in the bed or trying to simply get out of it can be a dangerous thing to do. I’ve known people to get a nasty nip or worse from a dog that has been woken in this way.
Many people allow their dogs to simply sleep on the floor, this can be unhealthy for the dog and the house. Dog hairs can be spread all over the floor and, especially with thicker carpets, they can be difficult to clean. If you live in a highly populated area you could always consider professional help, for instance carpet cleaning in London can be quite cheap due to the number of businesses competing with one another.
The best place for your dog is in its own bed or crate inside. Do not house your dog outside. They are vulnerable to being stolen or may decide to dig their way out of the garden to be close to you.
There are plenty of great dog beds on the market which come in all shapes and sizes. You need one that is easy to keep clean. I find the plastic baskets are great as you can buy soft cosy blankets to keep them warm and still clean the basket down when need be. The basket should be positioned out of drafts and direct sunlight so that the temperature is comfortable and they don’t get any chills.
