Pets and Fireworks

Posted by: Terry  :  Category: General

The nights have started drawing and the dreaded fireworks have already begun in my neighbourhood!  Your pet may not be affected by the noise of fireworks but in the main most animals will find the loud banging disturbing and frightening so you need to take precautions:

Cats

Keep you cat indoors when it is firework season
Keep all the doors and windows closed and play music or the TV to drown out the sound
If your cat wants to hide under furniture or in a corner let it do so
Make sure the cat is micro chipped and has a name tag in case it bolts and gets lost

Dogs

Take your dog for a long walk in the day – do not walk them when fireworks are being set off
As with cats keep the dog indoors in the evening, close all windows and doors and play music or put the TV on
Your dog may want to hide in a corner or under furniture – let him
Again make sure he is micro chipped and has a name badge in case he bolts.

Small Animals

Don’t forget small outdoor animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs – bring them inside in the evening.
