Naming Your Pet Rabbit
When choosing the name of any pet it can be a difficult task and you will be inundated by advice and suggestions from friends and family. There are plenty of tip on the web suggesting using human names or names of famous people or characters out of books. However here are some tips that are worth considering when choosing a name that will make the handling of your rabbit much easier.
Aim to choose names that are of two syllables rather than anything longer. Otherwise your rabbit will not be able to differentiate between its name and other sentences spoken. Remember rabbits don’t speak your language!
Go for a name that has ’y’ or ‘ie’ on the end. Animals respond to these sounds and if you use the name in a gentle soothing voice they will learn to recognise it and feel calmed by it.
Also choose a name that you feel comfortable calling out. If you feel embarrassed out in the garden then its not the right name! You don’t need to get too complicated or clever with names for your rabbit. Keep them simple.
You don’t have to select the name straight away. Take time to get to know your rabbit’s personality first.
