Keeping Your Cat Warm in Winter

Posted by: Francine  :  Category: Cats

The recent cold spell with snow and ice and hale has really got me in the festive mood.  The tree is up already and I’m enjoying cosy nights in front of the fire.  It can be easy to forget how the cold affects your trusty feline friend at times like this.  You need to ensure that your cat can get into the warmth when temperatures drop dramatically particularly if he likes to wander outside.

My cat is not easily discouraged from going outside and seems to quite like the frosty weather.  He will regular as clockwork do his daily rounds in the garden and beyond.  Cat’s furry coats start to thicken up dramatically in the autumn months and thankfully they stop shedding hair.  This does give them some decent padding against the clod climes but they still can suffer from the affects of cold if they can’t warm up from time to time.

I do send out the search party if my cat fails to return after a few hours or if the weather takes a turn for the worst.  I’ll make sure he has access via a cat flap when I’m out at work – again in case the weather suddenly worsens.  Remember cats are fans of the heat so make sure they have access to some cosy corner at all times.
