Keep Your Bird Cage Clean
Birds can become easily ill or infected if you don’t keep to a strict hygiene regime. Wipe down the surfaces of the bird cage daily and remove any bird faeces from perches and toys. If your bird has a bird bath in the cage change the water daily and clean the bath regularly.
Always check daily for old food and don’t allow fresh food to spoil. The cage bars should be scrubbed with a gentle washing liquid and water every three days. Wipe down the tray and bars with kitchen towel to prevent the bars from rusting or discolouring. If it’s a sunny day allow the tray and toys to dry out in the sun.
Every couple of months thoroughly disinfect the cage with a small drop of bleach in some water. Rinse thoroughly so that no traces of the bleaches remain on the cage and allow drying in the sun if possible.
Check toys daily for any damage and rotate them weekly to prevent your bird becoming bored.
