Get a Dog to Beat SAD Syndrome
I was watching TV this morning and was intrigued to hear that dog owners are much more unlikely to suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD syndrome. All animals react to changes in the seasons and the level of light that they are able to absorb throughout the day. According to a report on GMTV, with our atrocious weather in the summer, more and more people are starting to suffer the effects of SAD even in the summer months.
This is not only due to the rainy weather we’re having but also the amount of time people tend to spend indoors. Years ago most people worked outside and therefore clocked up plenty of exposure to light and the sun. These days we spend a huge percentage of our lives cooped up in offices ad apparently the affects are now starting to show. People can suffer depression, lethargy, tiredness, sugar craving and even stomach or joint discomfort.
To beat the effects of SAD you simply need to up the amount of hours you expose yourself to natural light. It doesn’t have to be sunny either (lucky for us Brits!). Its for this reason that dog owners don’t seem to suffer from SAD. Those mornings of dragging yourself out in rain, hail or shine will pay off dividends keeping you upbeat and fit!
