Fancy a Fancy Mouse?
Mice are from the rodent family which are a group of mammals that are characterized by their incisor teeth which are large and cause the animal to gnaw incessantly to prevent overgrowth. Rodent is derived from rodere a latin word that translated means ‘to gnaw’.
There are various species of mice around the world. The domesticated version is called Mus musculus otherwise known as the Fancy Mouse.
A Fancy Mouse can grow up to 10 cm in length which is measured from the nose to the base of their tail. Their tails are around 9 cm in length. Mice are very sociable creatures and like to have the company of others. They are predominantly nocturnal creatures making them particularly active in the evening and at night.
They are great pets as they are very good natured and inquisitive making them entertaining to watch. They can live up to three years old although the average life span is 1.5 to 2 years.
Keep them in a secure cage away from small children and other pets such as cats. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water and things they can happily gnaw on.
