Ensure Halloween is a Treat for Your Dog
You may be gearing up to some spooky festive celebration with Halloween coming up on the horizon but for your dog it can be more of a fright night than you may have intended. Although dogs will enjoy the increased attention that the Halloween visitors and festivities will bring they will also feel a huge amount of tension and anxiety as their quiet evening is disrupted by ghouls and witches knocking at the door and shouting, ‘Trick or Treat?’ Your dogs anxiety levels might reach an all time peak if your then squeeze him into a puppy vampire suit!
To try to keep your dog as stress free as possible make a big fuss of him throughout the day. Take him on a long walk just before guests are due to arrive to relax him or play with him in the garden. Give him a treat or two also. As your guests start to arrive let him greet the guests and sniff them out so that he can get used to all the new scents and sounds. He is likely to get excitable in response to the excitement levels coming off your guests so reassure him gently. If you want to include him in the Halloween theme then go for a Halloween collar rather than a full costume! That way he can enjoy all the attention without feeling out of sorts in a silly costume.
