Choosing a Bird Cage
The most important thing you’ll buy for your pet bird will be a cage. So your bird feels at home you need to create a secure and safe living environment. There are many cages on offer in different styles and sizes so narrowing down the selection can be difficult.
Here are some points to consider before taking the plunge:
The cage needs to be the correct size for your pet bird. If its too small it will prevent movement and your bird will be unable to fly around. However it should not be that big that in intrudes on the rest of your home by choosing a cage far bigger than the bird requires. Also remember that you will be adding food bowls, toys and perches which will cut down the amount of space available.
Next look at the location in your home of the cage. It needs to be away from windows and damp or dark areas. Put it in an area that is visited frequently by you and others in the household. This makes the bird part of the family unit and helps it to develop its social skills.
Check that the spaces between the bars aren’t too wide so that the bird cannot wedge itself between the bar or actually slip through and out of the cage.
Also check that the cage is easy to clean and is robust.
