Taking the dogs out in the car can sometimes feel like a military operation but if you have the correct equipment in tow taking your dog out with you can be a joy.

There are various options for securing your dog so that he or she isn’t roaming lose in the car.  The most obvious is to put them in the boot of the car if you have a hatchback.  You can get railings that fit between the ceiling and floor to prevent them jumping up and over the back seats.  If the boot isn’t adequate and you need to use the back seat the again railings can be bought to section off the rear of the car so that you don’t get you curious canine friend trying to sit on your knee as your driving.

To keep your dog secure there are also harnesses available to that can be clicked into the seat belt in the car or alternatively you can consider using a crate if you can get one that fits your car.

Next you need protect the car from hair, slobber and mud.  You can get a variety of waterproof covers from most good pet stores that can be secured around headrests so that they don’t slip.  There are also zip up towels available that you can stick the dog in if he’s decided to go for a paddle that keep him warm and protect your car from that lovely wet dog aroma.

Take water, treats and poop bags with you also and don’t forget the dogs lead.
