Calling All Doggie Blood Donors

Posted by: Terry  :  Category: Dogs, General

The registered charity Pet Blood Bank UK (PBBuk) was launched in March 2007 and since then has received over three hundred blood donations.  Unsurprisingly the charity is looking out for more.  You may not realise this but from just one donation from your pet up to four animals can be helped.

The law was changed in October 2005 which now allows for pet blood to be stored for the first time.   Pet Blood Bank UK was therefore established to collect, separate and store pet blood that can then be supplied to vets as and when required across the UK.

The President of the British Veterinary, Ted Chandler said:

‘The availability of properly cross-matched blood or plasma for transfusions has become a necessity and the establishment of a permanent blood bank is a real step forward in managing animal welfare.’

In particular demand are donations from dogs so for further details on how you and your pooch can help contact Pet Blood Bank UK on 01509 232 222 or visit their website at www.petbloodbankuk.co.uk.
