A Loved Cat is a Happy Cat
If you are a responsible cat owner you will be attentive to your cat’s moods and will notice their little nuances and phases. Cats can become deeply unhappy in certain circumstances but there are ways of spotting the signs so you can react before it gets out of hand.
The first thing to do is check your cat’s coat. An unhappy cat will have a dull and unkempt coat as often the first healthy behaviour to go is that of grooming. Another indicator that your cat has got a touch of the blues is if he becomes inactive and starts sleeping more than usual. Along with suddenly changing routines these are all diversionary tactics to avoid something that is distressing him. Another obvious sign is a loss of appetite.
An extremely unhappy cat might start to talk to you more than usual. They could become overly needy or on the opposite extreme act in an aggressive manner.
Check that you are feeding the cat as well as you should and then follow these tips:
Make sure they have high resting places to keep a catty eye on things
Give the love but only when they want it
Make sure they have private places to rest undisturbed
Play with them often and make sure they access to the outdoors and exercise
