A Dog is For Life

It is a well known saying that a dog is not just for Christmas but for life.  It’s that time of year again when all the dog charities start sending out this message to dog owners everywhere.  However, year after year this simple message seems to fall on deaf ears and thousands of dogs land in rescue centres homeless and unwanted.  Across the UK there endless dogs in desperate need of a loving home and if you feel you can offer the right environment and can commit to the responsibility of dog ownership Christmas is a good time to take one.

Although for some people the holiday season may be a loud and busy time which would be frightening and confusing for a dog, for many it’s a quiet time when you and family are off work and therefore can spend quality time with the dog helping it to settle in.  You can focus on toilet training and bonding with your new family member without the distractions of the normal day-to-day.

If you are considering a Christmas as the time to get a rescue dog then think carefully particularly if you haven’t owned a dog before.  Children will very quickly get bored of looking after the dog so it will fall mainly to you to care for it.  Remember!  A dog is for life, not just for Christmas!
